Cancer Patient Wins £5,000 After Betting He'd Live Longer Than Doctors Predicted Posted: 1 year ago by 2manyusernames
Doctors diagnosed Jon Matthews with cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. He was told that he'd probably live less than a year and that the longest anyone lived with his type of cancer was 25 months.
He took that as a challenge and went to a casino, betting that he'd outlive the doctors' predictions. He was given 50-1 odds. And now is the winner of $9,810.38

Errrrr, who'd have paid up if he'd died? Talk about a win-win situation, apart from the whole,"dead" thing of course.

Either he gave them 100 British Pounds when he made the bet or his estate would have owed the money.
Oddly enough, the pound symbol shows up in the headline but when I place it in a comment it gets deleted.
Even more odd, it showed up until I had to edit the comment, now I can't place it back.

Giving someone a financial incentive to see you in the grave, isn't always the best thought out idea.
If this was in Vegas, they would have taken the bet, and given him a complimentary ride to the desert with a couple friendly chaps and a few shovels.
