Other Nations Do Give to the United States!
Believe or not, the great philanthropist of the modern world actually received donations (or pledges of donations) from other nations in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. picked by cheeselog1234 4 months ago

"The Shock Doctrine"
by Naomi Klein

Suggest the development of a new capitalist model (disaster capitalism) that views disasters (natural and man-made) as a passage through which to enact sweeping economic deregulation and socio-economic reorientation.

A very important and genius book. When coupled with Negri and Hardt's EMPIRE, the results are astounding.

So where did it all go?

Did it pay for the war?

...While I recognize that Hurricane Katrina was a terrible event, I think the United States should have refused monetary aid from a lot of those countries. They're really much more capable of taking care of their own citizens that many of the countries on that list

"Bosnia/Herzegovina: $6,414 pledged"

"Hungary: $5,000"

I dunno, I just have a feeling that that money would have gone a lot further had it stayed in Bosnia.

Maybe it's important for a country to contribute to strengthen friendly ties and show their support, but in the end...I think that some of the countries giving are far more disenfranchised on a daily basis than the USA dealing with this natural disaster.
