I'm sorry, but this is a cloud that I would prefer remaining to be rare:

If it is nuclear generated, then yes...

No, they said it can also be caused by volcanos too! All a mushroom cloud indicates is a BIIG explosion. And since when is that good? Looks pretty bad ass though...

We had mammatus clouds cover campus my first year at Smith. As you can imagine, nothing got done that day because we, as well as our instructors, were glued to the windows in the event that the end of the world was upon us.

It made the front page of our campus paper the next week, if that tells you how striking they are in person.

Kinda off-topic, but I swear I saw a complete-circle rainbow in the clouds below the plane, above the Rocky mountains when I was flying to LA. A rainbow. In a circle. It was amazing!

You make it sound like it couldn't happen? The only reason rainbows, when seen from the ground, are arc-shaped is because the circle forms around your perspective. It's a circle, interrupted. If you go to the top of a waterfall, and the sun is overhead, you'll see circles.

And, if you stand with your back to the rising sun above a fog filled valley, you'll see a crown of light coming from head of your shadow on the fog. Cool stuff, light and water!

At the time, I preferred to believe it was something along the lines of magic and a good omen for my trip.

But have it your way.

Rainbows actually are all complete circles, at least theoretically. Most of the time, they fall over the horizon though, so you can only see half.

Edit: And I see that what I've had to say has already been said...

My boss has a thing whereby if he feels that the overall effect is more impressive than the technology behind it he says it runs on PFM.

Only when pushed will he explain that PFM means Pure Fucking Magic
