Clinics offering discounted or free circumcision for men in sub-Saharan Africa are experiencing long lines and keen interest as word spreads that the operation provides partial protection against HIV and may offer other benefits, researchers report.

I've read before the belief that circumcision can help prevent AIDS, and I have to admit I wonder how that is possible. Not that I am against circumcision for males, I just don't get that argument for them.

example:
Being true or not, my guess is that it's a bad thing to promote this as a tool against AIDS.... even the "best" study outcomes don't show a better prevention against HIV transmission than condomes give. By using circumcision as "another option", there are more people bound to get infected.
Next up....these studies only talk about the male perspective, not the female one. NO study claims any direct protection for females, so they're screwed either way (pun intended)

Think about the people who actually have to DO all these circumcisions.
The pay is terrible, but the tips sure do pile up.

Yeah, I can't understand this. I know there is a high number of Muslims in Africa, so they would be circumcised as part of their religion.
And circumcision as an adult means you will have an open wound on your member for a bit, and if you CAN have sex before it heals, it's an infection vector.
While a circumcised penis may be easier for some men to keep clean, I can't really see it doing much more than that.... Oh, and marking your religion or area of birth.
Better the men than the women, IMHO!

This creates an environment that is less hostile to HIV, allowing it to survive longer and so creating a larger window for infection.
For a circumcised man as soon as he withdraws the exposure to the outside world starts to kill the virus off.
