Rio float depicting Hitler, dead Jews banned
A judge issued an order Thursday prohibiting a Rio samba group from parading during carnival with a float depicting naked bodies of Holocaust victims.

I guess anything goes in the Carnival, except that. I always thought Carnival was supposed to be a festive thing. I can't imagine a lot of dancing and drinking around that float...unless of course you're a Nazi b*****d.

Yeah I'm curious as to the reasoning behind this thing. What's the point?

I don't pretend to understand what the creator of that float was thinking, but IF he was trying to use the atmosphere of Carnival to highlight a statement about how this kind of atrocity exists not only in our past but in our present (hence, possibly the name), it might start moving towards no longer being offensive for the reasons given. Unless, of course, people prefer we not remember the atrocities that have happened.

I some-times wonder how often well-meaning people with a message are misconstrued in this way? Not 100%, certainly, but more than zero.

Cheers.

Mocking Hitler would be one thing, having dancing girls (dressed like Hitler) wiggling on top of a float with mannequins representing the bodies of the victims of the holocaust is an affront. I don't think his message was misconstrued.
