School Took Girl's Crutches Because She Didn't Have A Doctor's Note
School Took Girl's Crutches Because She Didn't Have A Doctor's Note
Stupid nurse felt that she should go above and beyond the policy of requiring a note by taking the crutches from the 13-year old girl. Forcing the girl to walk without crutches might not have been the best of ideas.

Everybody say it together... FLORIDA!

That nurse better get on HER knees and pray that there's no permanent damage to the girl's knee. How stupid can you get? If there is an issue with crutches, hold the student in the office or send them home. Only an idiot would take the crutches away.

When my girl was a cheerleader she was dropped and broke her elbow. We took her to the Dr., he gave her a note for her injury and said he wouldn't be able to cast it for a few days.
Her coach took it as a bulls**t note and had her doing push-up the next day.

...California

and this kind of s**t happens every day, in every state.

Have the administrators been watching the movie "Blind Fury" too much?

Although it might be harder to hide a sword in a pair of crutches.

what's hard to stomach for me is to see our comments versus the comments on the article itself. A lot of people actually are sympathizing with the nurse and the system. Saying how kids do abuse crutches all the time. Well, if that's true and I'm sure it happens, they should have called the doctor or the mother and if that failed the girl could have brought in a note the following day or else have some sort of repricusion. The blatant abuse of power is nauseating.

If it were my kid, that worthless excuse of a nurse would need a doctor. That is inexcusable to do that...she would be 100% liable if the kid fell down stairs or whatever as a result of the crutches being taken away. Unf*ckingbelievable.

You know what someone should do? They should walk up to that nurse spread their buttcheeks, and sit that butt helmet right on the nurses head.

Then, when she complains about it, they should be like "I'm sorry, you say you have a butt on your head? I'm going to need to see a note from your doctor about that."

I'm not surprised. Disgusted, but not surprised.

When I was 17, I had to go on crutches for a foot problem. Normally, no big deal right? Wrong! I went to a private school with an insanely strict dress code. I had to get permission to wear sneakers all day from the Dean of Women. After all, there was no way I'd be able to get across a pretty big campus wearing dress shoes and hobbling around on crutches, and I wasn't going to get any breaks on being late for class. Her first question wasn't something like "how long will you be on crutches?" or even "how are you feeling?", but "how are you going to handle chapel?" The woman was more concerned with the shoes being worn in morning chapel than the recovery of a student. I got the permission finally, but I had no respect for that woman ever again.

I expect that kind of legalistic stupidity in private schools, but it does bother me that it's now in public schools as well.
