"Black Hole" becomes a racist term
Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office.

Either they really just wanted to stir up racial tensions, or they would absolutely fail on "Are you smarter than a 5th grader." How do you get to be an elected official without a 5th grade education? Any 5th grader can tell you what a black hole is.

oh my lord.

Some of the comments were just as jaw dropping.

The guy who used it as an excuse to go on a anti-republican rant

and the guy trying to compare such terms as blackout, blackball, etc as part of the same thing and trying to claim that those terms came about during colonial america days.

Ooooh. Well, now see... it actually was made racist (very very loose use of the words "made racist) by changing it to white hole. If he just would have said "Excuse me ...about wha?" The commisioner would have had to explain himself and when it was explained it was a space thing they all could have had a good laugh.

Ok-- black in this case refers to absence of light, not a light-brown to dark-brown skin color versus a ... (what in the world would you say white people are, anyway? peach? soda-cracker? i give up)

Please excuse my misuse of grammar and lack of capitalization here. If I for one ever see a black hole, I'm jumping in to see what is on the other side.

Crap, I didn't realize my intro astrophysics class was really racism in disguise - we spend many lectures discussing black holes and dark matter.

The start of my novel goes like this (now):

"Threatening (color=neutral) clouds breached the hot hazy horizon, foretelling the disaster about to befall the (surname not suggesting color, race, ethnicity, religion or sexual preference) family. It's not enough that they'd been (color=neutral)listed by the McCarthyites. Now they
were being (color=neutral)mailed by the cruelest of all swindlers and (color=neutral)ballers, one Mr. Phineas Q. Whistlecone."

Whaddaya think?

One time I accidently slipped into a black hole... Or wait... No, that was a brown hole. Things were slippery, and it wasn't far from the pink hole... It was an honest mistake. I said I was sorry.
